Kristi Smith
I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a MA in Second Language Studies in May of 2016 and completed the BA two years prior. I also pursued a Certificate for Secondary Education, but found that the Master's program was more suited to my goals. I've now begun a Doctorate of Educational Leadership and Technology at William Howard Taft University.
My teaching experience has ranged all ages, proficiency levels and areas of focus. Most recently, I teach Expository and Research writing as well as Speech and Communications classes to undergraduate students pursuing an Associates degree at an international junior college in Kapolei where I am also the Accreditation Liaison Officer. Before teaching in the Associate's program, I taught ESL classes at the college, covering topics such as academic research, writing, and presentations. At other institutions, I've also taught Business and Conversational English to visitors in Waikiki and Survival English to recent immigrants to our community. All of these classes also include a cultural aspect to teach more about the history and customs of Hawai'i. After living in Hawai'i for nearly 15 years, I have spent time on almost every island. I cherish the history and language that we have in Hawai'i and am fascinated by the vast cultural diversity found here. Hawai'i is truly unique, and its beauty is not only in the scenery, but in the people that make Hawai'i my home. |
